You should have your hearing checked if you:
- Have to strain to hear normal conversations or watch faces to follow what people say
- Frequently ask people to repeat themselves
- Have difficulty understanding women, young children or people with high pitched voices
- Hearing ringing or other noises in your ear
- Turn up the TV or radio excessively to hear them clearly
- Have trouble identifying where sounds are coming from
Hearing Evaluation
Our medical practice is now recommending that each of our patients age 65 and older schedule an annual hearing evaluation. It is important to understand where your hearing is today and determine if now is the time to take advantage of 21st century hearing aid technology and begin to hear what you have been missing.
W recommend scheduling your annual hearing evaluation and bring a family member, loved one, significant other or friend that is familiar with your ability or inability to hearing everything going on in your life today. More often than not it is someone else that notices that you may be missing key words in a question, asking to have the television volume turned up or to repeat a question. Untreated hearing loss is more noticeable than you might think. When you can’t hear and consistently misunderstand conversations, the changes in your behavior may be far more noticeable than wearing hearing aids. Many people with hearing loss discontinue social activities resulting in isolation and depression.
The complete evaluation will take approximately 60 minutes; however we will only book five evaluations per day to assure you have the time necessary to ask any questions you may have after we have completed the proper testing.
Utilizing state of the art technology, we systematically perform a series of painless tests designed to predict the body’s neurological and mechanical abilities to detect and amplify sound as well as determining your ability to interpret speech. The hearing test time is dependent on the amount of hearing loss and whether or not a hearing aid fitting needs to occur.
Like anything else that is new to your day to day life, adjusting to a hearing aid does not occur overnight. Unlike vision restoration, hearing aids “do not” restore your hearing to the hearing you had as a child. Hearing aids, when fitted properly by a licensed Hearing Care Professional to accommodate your individual needs will allow you to hear the sounds that have slowly disappeared over the years. To assure the best result, you will be fitted with a hearing aid best suited for you. If you require a custom order, we will schedule you for a follow up fitting within 5-7 days of your order. During that visit we will go through a series of adjustments and directions to help maximize your hearing experience. We will then look forward to seeing you two more times over the next 3-5 weeks to answer any questions you may have and to be sure that you are satisfied with the quality of your hearing aid and the incredible quality of life experiences you will have, filled with sounds you have missed out for many years.
